HOW TO SIZE YOUR BOAT FOR A ROLLER FURLER SYSTEM
1. Jib Height: Decide what height off deck you wish the jib tack (lower forward attachment point). Will the sail clear the bow pulpit? Can you see under the jib easily?
2. Drum Height: What height do you want the drum? you can add toggles or most companies offer short and tall lower attachment chainplates. We will specify the drum height off deck we are selling.
3. Roller Furler System Length: Tie a long line securly onto the jib halyard, raise it up to the desired height (usually 12" below top, (see sailboat mfg. recommendation jib length and furler mfg. recommendation for upper halyard to mast pulley angle), and mark at lower pin attachment point, (take this opportunity to inspect jib halyard) lower line and measure = total roller furler system length.
4. Base Unit: We sell the base unit includes the Lower Attachment + Drum + Tack (jib sail forward lower attachment point) + Feeder Foil (bottom foil is special). See listing for base unit height.
5. Foil Total Length Needed: Roller Furler System Length - Base Unit Height = Total Foil Length needed
6. Number of Foils Needed: Total Foil Length Needed divided by Length per Foil (see listing) = Number of Foils Needed
7. Note: we sell different foil lengths (see listing), sometimes there are bonus short foils.
8. See What You Need to Install section, buy roller furler, read on line mfg. installation instructions.
9. Size Jib: while assembled roller furler system is on ground, install desired sail attachment shackles or snap shackles, now make a accurate measure of jib luff , consult SailMaker for advice on luff dimension.
