    Description

This is an exquisitely intricately carved meerschaum necklace and earrings set.
The wonderfully beautiful necklace is unlike any other I have ever seen. It is 18 inches long, including the hook style clasp. The earrings are set on clips. This wonderful set has been stored carefully, and because I have only worn it once many years ago, it is time for this beautiful hand carved and crafted antique to go to a new owner.
I can not find any damage or blemishes on this set.
    Please study the images.
I have had this lovely unique necklace in a box safely stored for many years.
New: Cleaned December 2020!  I was afraid to clean this lovely set; however, I read that all it needed was some mild soap and warm water, and voila! I rinsed it in Dove white soap and the pale meerschaum color is now what you see.
As you can see in the images, this meerschaum carving is very detailed workmanship. I have never personally seen any carving as intricate as this set!
I found this set in Reno, Nevada many years ago, and just had to purchase it, since it is so lovely.
    About Meerschaum
Meerschaum is a whitish to light beige, smooth, porous mineral composed of crystal fibers and amorphous material. It is soft and clay-like, and when dry it is light enough to float; when heated it hardens and becomes white. Since the 18th century, meerschaum has been exported from Asia Minor to Germany where it is made into tobacco-pipe bowls, cigar and cigarette holders, and carved jewelry. After use, meerschaum becomes stained from brown to mahogany color.
Please note that meerschaum is not ivory, which is made from animal tusks.
The name is the German word derived from Meer (sea) and Schaum (foam). Also called Sepiolite.
